Discoveree is a training & learning event held in winter each year. The location and date can move, but in recent years it has been held in Union City.
Workshops are lead by volunteer workshop leaders who have a skill, talent, craft or knowledge they want to share with other Girl Scout leaders and volunteers. Workshop leaders can submit the workshop idea form at any time during the year but we recruit during the summer as we begin to set the workshops in the fall.
All Girl Scout volunteers and Senior/Ambassador Girl Scouts are invited to attend.
At Discoveree, there is time to take four workshops. There are a few double workshops that take two slots - so be sure to read the workshop descriptions in the annual brochure. Below we highlight the types of workshops that are offered. Remember - the exact workshops offered each year depend on our volunteer workshop leaders - and are announced in the fall.

Thinking of Being a Participant? We think we have a lot to offer and hope you will join us for a great day of fun, learning and friendship. Some of the best ideas come as you are doing a craft and talking to the other participants in your workshop or making a new friend during lunch. Better yet, bring another volunteer from your troop and you'll come away with twice the number of new ideas or skills!
"I really enjoyed taking the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging class. With Girl Scouts focusing on equity and inclusion, I was glad to get the tools and resources I need to work with my girls on this timely issue." - 2021 Discoveree Participant |
"I have taken 3 outdoor cooking classes. My troop loves to cook when we camp because I had the confidence to teach them how. I got a bunch of great recipes too!" - 2019 Discoveree Participant All Girl Scout adult volunteers and Ambassador level Girl Scouts are invited to attend. Registration occurs online via through Council's Doubleknot system and typically opens in late fall/early winter. We have a monthly eNewsletter that has leader tips and ideas, important Discoveree dates, please sign up here. |

Information About Workshops
There are a wide variety of workshops offered at Discoveree and they change every year. We organize them by Troop Level and by Workshop Type to help you find workshops that fit your needs. Are you a new leader or working with young girls? Then try workshops targeted for Daisies and Brownies. Are you an experienced leader looking for new challenges for your girls? Try workshops targeted for Senior and Ambassador leaders. Remember, anyone can take any workshop so you are not limited by your troop's level.

A History of Hands on Learning
Discoveree has been around in some form for over 50 years with the goal of being By Volunteers, For Volunteers. The idea being that volunteers know best what volunteers need to know. And as Girl Scouts, we are always happy to pass on what we've learned and help each other out. We work to continue this goal.
A long-time Discoveree Committee Member, Ann Watrous, shared this history of how the event got started: "On October 19, 1968, the Livermore Amador Valley Association (LAVA) put on a training event called 'Leader Learn-in'. It was held at Hayward State College and the fee was $0.50. Senior Girl Scouts provided child care while adults chose from 24 workshops during 5 sessions. It was so successful that the following year it became a council sponsored event. In 1977, its name changed to Discoveree. Its logo became the compass rose and it's brochure color was goldenrod. The date was changed to February."

I love all the different things I can learn and do at Discoveree. It makes for a different experience each time I come. - 2020 Discoveree Attendee
